Tesla's Attic by Neal Shusterman and Eric Elfman

After their home burns down, fourteen-year-old Nick, and his family move into a new house. Finding the attic full of junk, Nick holds a garage sale where, much to his surprise, patrons seem compelled to make purchases. Nick and some new friends discover that all of the objects have extraordinary properties.  Nick also figures out that the attic is a strange magnetic vortex, which attracts all sorts of trouble.

I really liked this book - complicated characters, creepy villains, and some quirky funny bits.  The objects have weird powers that embarrass and cause problems, but are also entertaining.  Part one of a trilogy.
