Read Between the Lines by Jo Knowles

When Nate breaks his middle finger in gym class, it is splinted upright in a permanent insult.  Instead of being mortified, he is secretly empowered.  That angry middle finger appears in ten interconnected stories about relationships, family troubles, bullying and sexual orientation.

One of my favorite reads this summer!  The phrase "read between the lines" is more than an insult.  It's an invitation for deeper human contact.
