The Ability by M.M. Vaughan

School is abysmal and home is worse for twelve-year-old Chris Lane. Then he is invited to a special British-government-run school, which helps Chris and his classmates learn telekinesis and telepathy for spying missions. The training culminates in a dangerous adventure.

The plot is fast-paced, if a bit convoluted, with humor and some originality.  I like the idea that a person's mind abilities peak at age thirteen!  The ending doesn't fully make sense, but the sequel, The Ability Mindscape, should resolve the loose threads.
