The Cat At the Wall by Deborah Ellis
Mean girl Clare has always gotten her own way. At school and at home she can manipulate adults with her pretty smile and under-the-radar attitude. She meets her match in a new teacher, who calls her out and catches all Clare's misdeeds. Then one day: poof! Clare is dead and has come back as a cat at the Palestinian-Israeli border.
This book sounds weird, and it is, but in a wonderful way. As a cat, Clare understands all languages, the soldiers, children, residents and other animals. She needs help, but learns to also give it, and for the first time she cares.
