Edge Of Nowhere by John Smelcer
Seth Evanoff has isolated himself from friends and activities since his mother's death. Only his video games and junk food distract him. His Alaskan fisherman father grouches at him to get out and DO something. One stormy night on the way back from a fishing run, Seth and his dog Tucker fall overboard, unnoticed until the boat docks. A frantic search begins - one at sea for his father and a team of rescue workers, and one on land as Seth and Tucker struggle to find their way home.
John Smelcer does a terrific job bringing this survival story to life. Seth isn't a perfect boy scout and his obstacles aren't all solved. We feel his fear as well as his pride as he figures out how to find food, make shelter and navigate through the small island chain. Many days pass as both Seth and his father wonder if they will ever be reunited. This is an exciting survival story set in the Alaskan wilderness.
