Tin Star by Cecil Castellucci

Tula Bane is abandoned on the Yerta Feray Space station when her family is deceived by the leader of their colonization ship.  As the only human on the gritty, desolate station, she must learn to survive by trading and dealing.  The other alien species view her human-ness with contempt.  As the years pass Tula makes a lonely place for herself in this society.  When three teenage humans arrive, Tula must access those buried human instincts to relate to them - and to read them for tricks and lies.

It's a nice for a change to see a female protagonist in a science fiction story.  The plot can be disjointed and draggy in parts.  While the writing doesn't always give clear descriptions of the aliens, their worlds or the inter-galactic conflicts, the book moves along.  The ending is good, and dramatically wraps up the tale.
