Gracefully Grayson by Ami Polonsky
Grayson leads a life of self-imposed isolation. He eats lunch in the library, goes straight home after school and shuts himself in his room to doodle and daydream. Grayson has a secret about who he really is: a girl in the wrong body.
After a tentative new friendship wanes, Grayson lands a part in the school play, but it's for the female lead. Facing teasing at school and harsh criticism at home, Grayson finds acceptance in the theater crowd. Now he must find acceptance in himself. One of my favorites this year.
